When I heard about an abandoned waterpark in the middle of the Mojave desert between LA & Vegas, I knew I had to make the trip and explore.
Because who really thinks a ~waterpark~ in the middle of the desert is a good idea?
Rock-a-Hoola waterpark opened up in the early 1960s and then closed in the late 80s due to a drop in popularity.
The waterpark reopened in the late 90s, but didn't last too long as an employee took a late night ride down a slide into a partially-filled pool. The following settlement cost the waterpark millions of dollars, and Rock-A-Hoola closed down once again in 2004.
Now the waterpark sits abandoned, albeit with a broken fence and several "No Trespassing" signs.
I made the 3.5 hr drive and spent about a total of 15min here. I would've loved to stay longer, but I was really spooked out.
While there were a few other people there, I definitely felt like I was in the first 5 minutes of a Supernatural episode... the no trespassing signs didn't make it better.
The sky was a rolling, ominous Armageddon vibe, which really set the doomsday murder vibes (beheaded palm trees didn't help) so I high tailed it out of there.
Case in point, I can't wait to go back and explore, but definitely one of the sketchier things I've done... 10/10 would pull over for this again, but maybe with backup.
